Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Regional Clinical Manager and the Medical Director or the Medical Director’s designee, the Polysomnographic Technologist performs adult and pediatric sleep studies. Trainees and technicians work under the guidance of a technologist.
Responsibilities include:
- Explaining testing procedures to patients
- Applying all recording and monitoring electrodes
- Recognizing and eliminating artifacts within PSG
- Calibrating and troubleshooting all equipment as needed to maintain quality data
- Applying appropriate testing and therapies as ordered and according to protocol
- Training new hires and trainees under guidelines set forth by Persante and associated accrediting agencies
Qualifications
- Certification Requirements: Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Licensure Requirements: Must hold a New Jersey (NJ) state licensure
- Education: An associate degree in Sleep Medicine is preferred
Routine Work Hours
Although hours may vary depending on the company’s needs, these duties are generally performed in 10- or 12-hour shifts, starting between 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM and ending by 8:00 AM. Sleep studies are conducted seven days a week. The exact hours and schedule for each employee are assigned individually and documented in the employment letter. Work hours may be altered at the company’s discretion, with any changes memorialized in writing and signed by both management and the employee.
